Last Tuesday commuters in Oslo had an unexpected journey to work. The entire Nationaltheatret metro station had been transformed into bustling Times Square subway station in a campaign to promote Norwegian Airlines low cost, nonstop flights to New York.
Norwegian’s first direct flight from Oslo to New York took off in May 2013. Almost two and a half years later, it was time for New York to come to Oslo instead.
Anyone using the Nationaltheatret metro station was in for a surprise. The entire station had been given a NYC makeover: from the walls to the platforms, from the signage to the advertising.
And there were some extra special commuters in Oslo’s very own subway: American football players, a gospel choir, preachers, hotdog vendors, Spiderman and a certain Times Square legend – The Naked Cowboy – all dropped by.
– Making the world more accessible by adding new direct flights at low prices, is what we do every day. But it’s the first time we make New York accessible to more than 40 000 morning commuters over night. That’s our way of saying that New York is closer than ever, says Stine Steffesen B0rke, VP Marketing at Norwegian.
A short film was produced to document the transformation and promote Norwegian’s low cost, nonstop, long-haul flights.
